Reading Notes, Week 2, Part B

The second part of this reading is all about following Oroonoko, Who's name is now Caesar through life as a slave. When he gets to Coramantien, he coincidentally reunites with Imoinda, and she gets pregnant. Soon, Caesar has the idea that he is going to kill Byam because he knows Byam is coming for him and his family since Imonida shot him with a poisoned arrow. Since Casear thinks that he will surely die after he kills Byam and he knows wife and child will not survive, he decides he has to kill them.  He convinced Trefry to let him walk alone with Imoinda and he told her the plan. He explained to her that he is going to kill her. He says his reasoning is he is scared that she would be hurt badly and eventually killed, he would rather just do it himself. She begs him over and over not to do this but he doesn't listen.  Caesar stabs Imoinda and she dies on their walk, he covers her body with leaves and flowers. Caesar wanted to join her in the afterlife but he knew ...

Time Management

Time management is very important, it is always nice to get things done on time. For me, Time is always a struggle. I have two jobs, and I am full time student but I try and not let time affect my life. To help me this semester I have finally invested in a planner and I love it! At the first of every week I write down everything I need to get done and when I need it done by and after I finish it, I check it off. It helps me keep up on all my assignments and it's also nice because I know once I put the check mark that I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Reading, Week 2, Oroonoko

Aphra Behn was a successful English writer. I say successful because it was a pretty big deal for women to solely survive off their work. She published Oroonko in 1688, it is one of her most popular books. Summary Starting off the narrator says that the white colonists in Suriname live with the natives in complete harmony and in a "perfect amity" and they don't command them at all. They instead trat them as equals theat they do trade with and respect them. (201)  Oroonko is about a prince of a country called Coramantien. He was in the military when he fell in love. Her name was Imoinda, "he was infinitely surpriz'd at the Beauty of this fair Queen of Night, who Face and Person as so exceeding all he had ever beheld, that lovely Modesty she receiv'd him, that softness in her Look and sighs," (206) Was how she was described in the book. He was going to pay her respects when her father died. That's when they fell in love and got married. Then...

Introduction

Hi everyone, My name is Megan. I have been at LMC for 2 years now. I'm planning on transferring in the fall to either Chico or San Jose, I just haven't been able to decide yet! My major is English and I plan on being a teacher. I love reading and writing. My favorite books are Looking for Alaska, The Harry Potter series, Divergent series, and many more. I love romance books but I also love mystery and action. I also love writing. I've written a couple shot stories but nothing too serious. Although one day I would love to write seriously. My favorite class I have taken so far at Lmc would have to be Sign Language. I loved the class, my professor and I also made a lot of friends. I also loved learning Sign Language and the history of it. Over break I had the best time! My best friend and I went to an event called Snow globe. It is a music festival in the snow. We went for New Years and had a blast, we are looking forward to going again this year! I also went to Disneyland, i...

Technology Tools

I think the technology tools for this class will be a big success in helping me learn. I like the idea of blogging all of my assignments because this way I can come back to the blog post if I ever want to study. The only technology tool that I won't be using is the text-to-speech reader. I get distracted easily so reading on my own is best for me. Other than that I believe any technology tools I can get I will put to use.

Growth Mindset Theory

I have learned about growth and fixed mindset it two of my other English classes at Lmc and I have always found these theories to be very interesting. I like the growth mindset theory. I love the idea of kids always learning more and more. I also love the fact that with growth mindset kids aren't being restricted to thinking they can only know so much or do so much. With this growth mindset they can have endless possibilities and opportunities. I couldn't agree more with Carol Dweck when she was talking in the "Make Challenge the comfort zone." When she was saying that kids should want harder work and they should want to be challenged, that is what growth mindset is all about. For a child to believe that they can learn endless things.  I like to believe I have a growth mindset but in certain situations I have a fixed mindset. For example, If I don't know how to do something at work I will automatically ask for help instead of trying to figure it out and solve the ...

My Favorite Place

My favorite place is Disneyland. How can you be sad there? It's like your problems disappear when you enter those gates and you look and see the castle and you can't help but stand there and smile.  It makes me laugh, cry happy tears, smile, and create the best memories that I will keep forever.  https://goo.gl/images/psb53o
