Growth Mindset Theory
I have learned about growth and fixed mindset it two of my other English classes at Lmc and I have always found these theories to be very interesting. I like the growth mindset theory. I love the idea of kids always learning more and more. I also love the fact that with growth mindset kids aren't being restricted to thinking they can only know so much or do so much. With this growth mindset they can have endless possibilities and opportunities. I couldn't agree more with Carol Dweck when she was talking in the "Make Challenge the comfort zone." When she was saying that kids should want harder work and they should want to be challenged, that is what growth mindset is all about. For a child to believe that they can learn endless things. I like to believe I have a growth mindset but in certain situations I have a fixed mindset. For example, If I don't know how to do something at work I will automatically ask for help instead of trying to figure it out and solve the problem myself. I always just want help. Maybe there is a part of me that is scared I will be wrong but mistakes are apart of a growth mindset. This is how we further our intelligence, we learn from our mistakes and fix them next time. I am good at learning new things, it just takes me a few times for it to stick.
I will definitely be more interested to learn about growth mindset! I think learning about this will help me be a better teacher in the future. I want to be able to make my students think they can do anything they set their minds to and they can, as long as they have a growth mindset.
One class I am really excited for is English 230. It teaches you more critical thinking and writing. I want to progress on my writing and I think that English 230 will really help me! One class I am a little worried about is Math. I have never been great at Math but I'm hoping if I put in a good effort and spend time in the Math Lab with a tutor I will be able to do good in this course.
