Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteGreat job with your very own anthology! I thought this was a pretty cool prompt and would be a fun project to write about. Your second paragraph does a great job of overviewing the themes you are going to explore throughout the readings. While reading the first paragraph I was looking for the reasoning of why you chose the theme of Death and Depression and why you might think these themes should be included in college curriculum. You touch on it a little bit in your final paragraph when you say they are important to learn and could teach an important lesson. I think you could really strengthen your project by diving a little deeper and exploring why they are important and what specific lessons they could teach students. You did a great job of exploring the themes in each of your choices and I think you were spot on. Great job overall!
Hi Megan!
ReplyDeleteI’m always really impressed by the reading choices people say they would include in this anthology project. I think it’s really interesting that your choices tie back to similar themes of death and depression and I think you managed to pick readings that really capture these themes. You mention in your introduction that most of the authors were from the 1800s and that statement really stood out to me. What is the significance of these authors being from similar time periods and also writing about similar themes? Why would it be relevant to include these works specifically? I would love to see how you would answer those questions, perhaps times were especially difficult when all of these writers were active or maybe they have nothing to do with each other at all and the relevance of choosing on works with these themes is to focus on humanity or one’s inner self. Overall, I think you have great reading choices and did a great job explaining why you choose them!
Hi Megan!
ReplyDeleteI love that you chose to create your own anthology! I did it as one of my projects and I had so much fun picking what stories I would put into it! I really like your selection of works. I think that the work and the authors themselves support your themes of death, depression and religion. It is interesting that you noticed all of your authors lived around the same time. What about the time period do you think made all of these authors so depressed and analyzing death all the time? I like in your Voltaire selection you differed from the death and depression and instead focused on the optimism that Candide had for throughout his life. It gives a contrast to the darker and grimmer works, even though it is pretty grim, that you selected. It really shows a balance. I enjoyed reading your work and thought it was very well put together!
Hey Megan! I wanted to start off saying you did a good job and I like how right away you jumped into the topic of what your project was about. You gave a brief introduction of what Moliere: Tartuffe was about and Ch'un-Hyang. That helps a lot, especially for those who didn't read the stories and didn't or couldn't understand where your connection was coming from. Even though, you did back up that connection with the evidence you provided and the quotes. I agree with what you said about Moliere portraying love as an attraction through attention or something like that. I don't remember exactly what you did but along those lines it was something I understood greatly. Overall, you did a good job at explaining your points and I look forward to reading your other work. Good luck with the third project submission Megan, keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHey Megan! I just read your third and final project submission. I think you did well by exploring the concept of love in a unique way by examining how love is portrayed in Tartuffe and Chun-Hyang. I somewhat disagreed that there was an element of love in Tartuffe because for me it was more about lust as Tartuffe was just overwhelmed by Elmire's physical beauty and didn't know her well enough as a person. Whereas in Chun-Hyang it was more love then lust because she chooses to be loyal to the man she is married to. Even though I disagreed with the idea of love being present in Tartuffe, I did find it interesting when you touched upon how love or affection can be manipulative as you stated that as Tartuffe had control over Orgon, similarly , Master Yi had control over Chun-Hyang. It's interesting because both of them suffer because of their love for both of them. One suffers financially while the other suffers physically almost to the point of death for a man that isn't present. Overall, you did a unique and interesting approach. I wish you the best of luck for your finals!
